Eye-Fi Inc. (www.eye.fi), makers of the world's first wireless memory
card for digital cameras, has announced that it collaborated with Nikon Corporation,
a world leader in digital imaging and precision optics, to deliver enhanced
integration of its Eye-Fi cards with Nikon's newly announced digital SLR
camera, Nikon D90. The D90 is Nikon's second "Eye-Fi Connected"
camera, following the Nikon D60, which was released earlier this year. Eye-Fi
Connected cameras make it easier for photographers to use their Eye-Fi cards
to wirelessly upload images to their computer or favorite online photo sharing
site.

While Eye-Fi cards work seamlessly with conventional SD-compatible digital cameras,
the Eye-Fi Connected Nikon D90 gives users an improved out-of- box experience
and more control of wireless capabilities. The camera will detect when an Eye-Fi
card is inserted and manage its power settings to ensure that photos upload
effortlessly for sharing and storing. In addition, the Nikon D90 will include
an Eye-Fi menu that allows users to turn the wireless function on or off, giving
the user more freedom to customize how and when they want to use the Eye-Fi
card. For example, if a user is in a hospital or on an airplane, or anywhere
else where wireless connectivity is not allowed, the user may disable the wireless
function through the Eye-Fi menu.

The Eye-fi Connected Nikon D90 will be unveiled at Photokina in Cologne, Germany
on September 23, 2008.

Because of the “this is why we can’t have nice things” antics of several idiots flying drones, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) now requires every drone (and RC aircraft) weighing more than 0.55 pounds to register their craft and have an identification label. Pilots are also required to carry Flight ID.

We often sing the praises of shooting at wide apertures to achieve soft, blurred backgrounds that accentuate the key element within the frame and guide a viewer's eyes exactly where you want them to go. Pro Gil Kreslavsky takes a contrarian view in this interesting tutorial by demonstrating why he recommends stopping down your lens instead.

There are numerous reasons why experienced landscape photographers avoid shooting wide open and prefer stopping down the aperture to f/8 or f/11— even if that means bumping up the ISO setting. So why does a German landscape pro advocate for faster glass when he rarely shoots at maximum aperture?

Fujifilm has announced the new FinePix S6000fd, the first digital camera with
Fujifilm's Face Detection Technology. Also today, Fujifilm unveiled the FinePix
F20, a sister camera to the FinePix F30.

The
newest component of Fujifilm's Real Photo Technology, Face Detection Technology
operates exactly as its name implies, detecting up to 10 human faces regardless
of their position in the scene. Once identified, Fujifilm's Face Detection Technology
prioritizes the faces. Then, the FinePix S6000fd adjusts its focus and exposure
automatically so the intended subject is sharp, clear and exposed in the most
flattering manner. The photographer can easily disengage the Face Detection Technology
at the touch of a button.

Face Detection Technology is a complement to the other components of Real Photo
Technology, particularly the i-Flash system, which also is found on the SLR-styled
FinePix S6000fd. After the detection system identifies faces and the camera sets
focus and exposure, i-Flash adjusts its power intensity accordingly depending
on scene conditions. The end result of the two features working in concert is
a more life-like 'people picture' with natural tones and finer detail.
