Abstracts In Nature

Our Picture This! assignment this month was Abstracts in Nature, and readers responded with a beautiful assortment of images from every type of environment and in every season. Each framed the world in a very special way, recognizing the divine in life as something the inspired eye can capture through the informed lens of a camera. In fact, this assignment probably brought in the most images we've seen in Picture This! in quite a while, making our selection even tougher than usual.

Alpine Lakes

The reflections caught on the Alpine Lakes Wilderness in the Cascade Mountains by Lyle Hoefner are a Rorschach test for the spirit. He photographed with a Pentax 6x7 and a Pentax 200mm lens on Kodacolor 100 film.

Natural Calligraphy

Shot originally on Fujifilm Supra color negative film with a Canon EOS 3, Dr. Judith Ebenstein converted this pattern of branches into black and white. The result is a mysterious message from a pond and branches.

Photographer Wendy Kaveney wrote, "After photographing the classic shot of the famous Horseshoe Bend in Page, Arizona, I turned my sights to the plant life at the rim."
