When Christopher James was a kid he frequently got lost in his daydreams, a place full of imagination and exploration he calls “The Deep.” These days as a photographer with an obvious sense of humor, he frequently returns to “The Deep” for inspiration.

Amateur photographer Colin Lowe is serious about pinhole photography, and he’s also pretty keen about constructing his own cameras. For this project the Australian made a working, “edible” camera from a potato, a tomato paste can, two 35mm film canisters and a refrigerator magnet.

Vadim Trunov is a self-taught, 30-year-old Russian wildlife photographer who makes some amazing images. In this fanciful series he captures red squirrels as they seemingly take pictures while frolicking in the snow.

We’re not sure if this video is funny or sad, but it conveys an important warning: Don’t drive off with your father’s expensive camera on the roof of your car. That’s what happened to this poor soul (and the ill-fated camera) during a recent road trip.

The Raw vs. JPEG debate seems to be a neverending one. Some photographers say that shooting JPEGs simplifies their workflow and lets them spend more time behind the camera and less time behind the computer.  Raw shooters, on the other hand, insist their approach utilizes unprocessed “digital negatives” straight out of the camera—thereby giving them maximum control and uncompromising results.

The annual Comedy Wildlife Photography Awards is a lighthearted competition designed to not only showcase fine imagery, but to bring the importance of conservation to the forefront so photographers and others can do their part to help preserve threatened species.

Here’s another hilarious video from folks at TheCameraStoreTV, which poses the question: If you were lost in the wild, could your photo gear help save your life?

Here’s something fun to carry you into the weekend. Freefly, which makes the Alta 8 camera drone, released a video today showing someone surfing while being pulled by a high-flying drone. It was shot at Dash Point State Park in Washington.

My friend Kasia (not her real name) bought a Click Bit bracelet last month to track her photography activity and immediately became obsessed with recording every detail of her camera life. Not passively obsessive, either—she’s become a compulsive, fanatical, evangelistic, raving maniac. But let’s go back to when she was still just chubby Kassie…

We've alll seen them: people who want to ruin a perfectly good meal by taking a lame photo of it to post on Instagram.

We’ve all seen them: people clumsily using the low-resolution camera in their Apple iPads to take photos at tourist spots. Well, one dolphin at Sea World in Orlando, Florida finally had enough.

Mark Udovitch is an Australian radiation therapist with a great sense of humor; a rare commodity is his line of work. He recently came up with a unique way to raise money for cancer patients with his “Dry Shave Off” project, in which he mimics several famous celebrity photos featuring his long hair which he plans to shave off tomorrow.

We occasionally turn to “The Slow Mo Guys” when we need a good laugh, and the video below sure did the trick. Gavin uses a $150,000 Phantom Flex digital camera at 1000 frames per second to capture Dan eating a cob of corn that’s slathered with ketchup and mounted on an electric drill. Sound stupid? It is.

We’re not really sure if this is funny, sad, sacrilegious or just plain dumb. But if you’ve had a frustrating day, this crazy video of a hydraulic press crushing some nice photo gear may just be what you need. Or not.

I’m way too polite and well-mannered to come right out and say that photographers lie, so instead I’ll repeat some of the things I’ve heard them say and translate their words into language we can all understand, i.e., the truth. For example, when my friend told me, “Very useful blog this week, Jon!” she really meant, “You couldn’t write your way out of a paper bag, you schlub, but I ran out of Nyquil and I had to get to sleep somehow…”
