Those (still) popular GoPro action cameras just got some stiff competition. DJI, which is known for its drones and camera stabilizers, just launched the new 4K-shooting Osmo Action camera, which is a direct competitor to GoPro's now ubiquitous POV adventure cams.

A while back we wrote about a crazy photographer who mounted a GoPro on his DSLR and photographed a college football game, just because. And now he’s at it again, this time putting a “knockoff GoPro” on a Fuji digital camera to shoot cityscapes and street scenes in Boston.

Here’s the second POV video we’ve seen today where something crazy happens to a cyclist. (Is it a full moon or something?) The below video features some gnarly helmet cam footage of a pair of mountain bikers careering down a dirt trail through the woods.

OK, bird lovers, here's something unique that will let you take great remote photos of your feathered friends. Bird Photo Booth 2.0 is an affordable bird feeder and 4K action cam combo for getting great close-ups and action shots of birds and other wildlife without a lot of fancy gear.

If there were a Photokina Award for the greatest number of cool new products by an American manufacturer, GoPro would certainly be in the running. The innovative folks that put action cams on the map unveiled two new Hero5 cameras and their first-ever drone, along with some interesting accessories. 

The Faroe Islands are a bucolic archipelago of about 540 square miles between the Norwegian Sea and the North Atlantic Ocean. And as you might expect, this scenic locale wasn’t high on the list for obtaining Goggle’s Street View technology. So shepherd/engineer Durita Dahi Andreassen took measures into her own hands and created the “Sheep View” project for documenting the islands.

Phew, what a busy month it’s been for new photo gear! While the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas has not, traditionally, been a major event to debut high-end photography equipment, CES 2016 was definitely an exception with dozens of interesting imaging releases. (And hopefully this is a trend that continues at future CES events, which, in recent years have been rather ho-hum for photography gear.)
