Sony’s New RX0 Is a Tiny Waterproof Action Camera for High-Resolution Stills and Videos

Sony has unveiled the ultra-compact 15.3MP RX0 waterproof camera designed to combine high-resolution images and videos with a host of unique capabilities. Up to 15 RX0 cameras can be triggered simultaneously for creative effects when using the Sony FA-WRC1M Wireless Radio Commander.

Weighing just 3.9 oz. and measuring 2.38 x 1.63 x 1.19 inches, the tiny Sony RX0 features a rugged waterproof, crushproof design and a 24mm Zeiss T* 24mm f/4 fixed wide-angle lens. The camera offers a top shutter speed of 1/32,000 second and a maximum burst capability of up to 16fps. Sony’s PlayMemories Mobile app delivers wireless control of up to five RX0 cameras from any paired device.

The Sony RX0 boasts a 1.0-type stacked Exmor RS 15.3MP CMOS sensor that Sony says delivers high-resolution Raw and JPEG stills and videos across all supported file formats. Video capabilities include super slow motion capture at up to 960fps, 4k clean HDMI output to an external recorder, and a variety of picture profile and focus options.

Waterproof at depths down to 33 feet, the RX0 can be used to depths of 330 when paired with Sony’s optional MPK-HSR1 Housing. The Sony RX0 is expected to ship in October for about $700.
