Camera Shootout: Watch the Sony A7R III vs Sony A7 III vs Nikon D850 (VIDEO)

Three of the most talked about full-frame, interchangeable lens cameras of the past year, undoubtedly, have to be the Sony A7R III and A7 III mirrorless cameras, and the Nikon D850 DSLR. While we’ve reviewed all three models at Shutterbug, we haven’t done a direct head-to-head comparison of them.

That’s why we like the below camera shootout from The Slanted Lens, which pits the Sony A7R III vs. the Sony A7 III vs the Nikon D850. Hosted by Jay P. Morgan and Kenneth Merrill and featuring Spike Leffke who serves as the model for the camera evaluations, the trio puts the cameras to the test in “the alleyways of Pasadena” in California.

If you want to skip ahead to various sections of the camera shootout, here’s a breakdown of times for each test in the below video:

3:45 - Auto Focus Test

6:25 - Resolution Test

8:41 - ISO Test

12:23 - Exposure Test

17:05 - Picture Profiles (Standard and Flat)

19:57 - Slow-Motion Test

21:50 - Recap and Verdict

We won’t give away who won the shootout but will say that it was surprisingly close. You can view the Slanted Lens’ image test results from the camera comparison and further commentary here.

I carry a heavy Canon 5D IV with battery grip and was looking for something lighter. Surprised that the G lenses will make the A7III heavy again.
