Panasonic has introduced the HX-A1, a wearable, ultra-compact, POV action camcorder that weighs just 1.6 ounces. The small, portable design allows for longer periods of recording scenes in Full HD while the HX-A1’s rugged structure keeps water and dust out and protects against impact and cold temperatures.

Photokina 2014 in Germany has been covered widely on the Internet already—including our own extensive reporting on the show on Shutterbug.com—so there’s no need for me to rehash the major announcements from the event, such as the latest full-frame cameras from Canon and Nikon and the like. Sony stepped up its 4K game at CES. The company introduced a powerful and tough new POV  camera, the 4K Action Cam. The new model, known as the FDR-X1000V, is a compact, splash-proof POV camera that allows users to easily capture stunning 4K content (3840x2160@30p 100Mbps1/60Mpbs), which can be played back on a compatible 4K TV directly from the camera through HDMI. It also features enhanced HD video performance with upgraded stabilization, image quality and high-frame rate shooting.

This small and portable device was designed to capture 360-degree HD videos and fully immersive images all in one shot, ie. without the need for multiple cameras or other devices. The SP360 Action Cam is small enough to fit in the palm of your hand and features a dome-shaped fixed lens that captures 360-degree HD videos (at 30fps) that can be shot and viewed from multiple vantage points including: 360-degree Panorama, Front (212 degrees), Split with 180 degrees front and rear views simultaneously, Dome (214 degrees) and Ring/Sphere (360 degrees) modes.

The Technical Image Press Association (TIPA) member magazines recently convened for their General Assembly to vote for the best photo and imaging products launched by the industry in the last 12 months. The voting took place during the General Assembly that was held in spring, 2014, in Vancouver, Canada.
