No longer confined to the seamier side of show biz and politics, Fake News has become a mainstream source of misinformation for virtually all industries and disciplines. What you are about to read is obviously true because it has been published online by a respected source. With that caveat, here’s the latest from the world of photography and beyond.
As we look ahead to 2017 and focus on the future of photography, it seemed appropriate to ask photographers who’ve created innovative, forward-thinking images what motivated them to make these inventive shots.
Photographer Jaanus Ree visualized this image in his head before he shot it but the idea to use a cat was a last-minute decision borne out of necessity. “After seeing a portrait in a bookstore where I was able to see the photographer’s silhouette against the reflection of an eye, I got the idea to make something similar,” Ree notes.
Time-lapse photography and time-lapse videos are still immensely popular and interest in them shows no signs of slowing down (so to speak). In fact, a spectacular time-lapse video of Chicago was the fifth most popular story on Shutterbug.com in 2016 and it’s easy to see why.
Another year is about to come to an end and while there are quite a few folks who probably want to say “Good riddance!” to 2016, we here at Shutterbug have a slightly different take. From our perspective, we had a lot to be thankful for this past year. Our website saw record traffic growth in 2016 with more and more photographers coming to read our photography coverage. And for that, we thank you!

Fong Qi Wei is a photographer with a unique vision: He wanted to depict the passage of time with still images rather than with video as is customarily the case. His stunning “Time is a Dimension” series does just that by capturing cityscapes that illustrate how light changes throughout the day.
There’s a reason why this hyper-lapse video is so breathtaking: It took almost 48,000 hand-held still images, 35 days of shooting, and 220 days of post processing to create.
