Camera Shutter Sounds Are Not All the Same and This Video Proves It

Some photographers may think that every camera is only capable of making the exact same sound when the shutter is pressed (to capture a single shot or a rapid burst of images): that familiar soft metallic click. While that may seem to be true, in reality nearly every make and model of camera has a shutter sound that is quite unique.

This 49-second video (embedded below) created by Lavikka Photography highlights the different shutter sounds produced by the following camera models: Canon 5DS (capturing at 5 fps), Nikon D810 (at 5 fps), Pentax 645Z (at 3 fps), Sony a6000 and an OM-D E-M5 Mark II (10 fps).

To prove the point that each one is unique, the sounds produced are enhanced enough to be clearly audible in the video. Its also interesting to note that the Olympus E-M5 Mark III mirrorless camera has a very effective “silent” mode that enables users to capture images in total silence.
