When it’s cold outside, our bodies know it. If you’re like me, the agony travels from your fingers to your toes and from your ears to your nose. In that order. Warm boots, hats and earmuffs are not obstacles to creativity, but how can you use a camera with gloves on? To find out, read on…

Yup, that’s right. Our friend Where’s The Flash (WTF) peers into his alleged crystal ball and answers all of your questions about life, photography and anything made with tomato sauce. If he doesn’t know the answer, he’ll be proud to lie to you.

We’ve all covered the front of a lens with sandwich wrap or a nylon stocking and created a DIY special effects filter at one time or another. Maybe you’ve even smeared an old UV or Skylight with Vaseline or crayon wax to produce creative distortion. Cool, no? Well, those are NOTHING compared to the incredible optical tricks you can do with the new Omni Creative Filter System from Lensbaby.

There were so many three-legged accessory creatures at the last Photo Plus Expo in New York that for a moment I thought I was at a petting zoo in Chernobyl. Seriously—I dreamed I was surrounded by a herd of tripedal giraffes with skinny, hairless legs. If you’re stumped picking out a holiday gift for the photographers in your life, you’ve come to the right place. They say one should only give gifts that they’d like to have themselves—and that’s a good compass. So buy two and keep one, no one will know. And your budget won’t explode either, because these gifts cost less than 30 bucks each.

Kittens become cats, pigeons target sports cars and hard drives fail. Hope for the best but prepare for the worst—buy a plug-in external hard drive for your precious images or for a loved one. They are so simple to use that even an adult can manage on the first try, and they are so affordable that you’ll kick yourself if you fail to backup your photo files (and other important data) because your hard drive will fail. Just like that cuddly, cute kitten will soon become a smug adult cat that ignores you except when you’re in the middle of something urgent.
