Ricoh Imaging just introduced two new HD PENTAX D FA Lenses. Designed for use with the current PENTAX K-mount D-SLR cameras (and future PENTAX sensor technology) these lenses offer ranges not found in previous models, including a star-series telephoto zoom and super-telephoto zoom for capturing clear images of distant subjects and weather resistant for shooting in all conditions.

The HD PENTAX D FA lenses feature a high-grade HD Coating which helps produce extra-sharp, high-contrast images, minimizing flare and ghosting, even under demanding lighting conditions such as backlight situations.

Canon just debuted the new EF 11-24mm f/4L USM ultra wide-angle zoom lens designed to deliver high quality, minimally distorted images throughout the entire zoom range. Canon says the new lens features the widest angle of view (126º05’ diagonal) ever achieved for a rectilinear full-frame Digital SLR lens, along with a minimum focusing distance of 11 inches (at 24mm).

Korean lens manufacturer Samyang has announced a new 135mm f/2.0 ED UMC len. The lens,  which will be available in The lens in Canon, Nikon, Sony E and MFT mounts, is a full frame compatible, prime telephoto lens with a fast f/2.0 aperture and 11 elements in 7 groups.

At CES this morning, Fujifilm announced its new Fujinon XF16-55mm F2.8 R LM WR, a weather-resistant standard zoom lens with a 24-84mm equivalent that offers users a classic zoom range with a constant f/2.8 aperture.

Nikon launched a new digital SLR and two long lenses at CES tonight. The company unveiled the D5500, an advanced amateur DSLR sporting a 24.2-megapixel CMOS sensor with no optical low-pass filter (OLPF) and a new 3.2-inch varia-angle LCD touchscreen on back.

Photographers depend on the physical characteristics of light to apply their craft, yet the average Joe knows surprisingly little about how light works. It’s not necessary to be an optical engineer to take great photos, but having a basic grounding in the physics of light could help you understand some of the defects found in nearly all lenses (to one degree or another) and the effect that imperfections have on images.

Tamron is a pioneer in all-in-one, do-everything lenses. Their new 28-300mm f/3.5-6.3 Di PZD lens is designed for Canon, Nikon and Sony shooters and I tested the Canon EF version using an EOS 5D Mark I and an EOS 50D, which changes the lens’ angle-of-view to that of a 45-480mm lens.

Fujifilm has introduced two new macro extension tubes for its line of X-Series interchangeable lens cameras and a launch date for its major firmware update and PC tethered shooting software HS-V5 for the FUJIFILM X-T1 (Graphite Silver) and X-T1 (Black) cameras. The updates offering additional features and enhanced controls will also be made available for the Fujifilm X-E2, X-E1, X-Pro1and X30.

The very rare and very large Nikkor 6mm F/2.8 Fisheye Lens surfaces every once in a while and when it does, people’s heads turn. That’s exactly what happened when someone attached this whale-sized Fisheye to a Nikon D4S and shot some eye-catching footage (below) on a street corner in Copenhagen, Denmark recently.
