Nikon announced its 24.5MP Z6 mirrorless camera back in August 2018 alongside its 45.7MP Z7 but it doesn't go on sale until later this month. Shutterbug got to test out the new Nikon Z6 during a press trip to Orlando, FL this week and we’ve included ten full resolution test photos we captured with the full frame (FX-format) camera with this story.

Canon joined the full frame mirrorless camera market by introducing the new 30.3MP Canon EOS R last night and today we had our first chance to take it for a ride. Shutterbug is one of a select group of U.S. media to attend a special Canon R launch event in Hawaii and we spent the afternoon shooting with a full production Canon R and the RF 24-105mm F4 L IS USM “kit” lens at set-ups with models in Maui.

The new Olympus OM-D E-M1 Mark II is designed to hold up to inclement weather and boy did we put it to the test! During a press trip to Iceland last week, we adhered to the mailman’s creed while using Olympus’ new flagship mirrorless camera, shooting with it in rain, hail, sleet, snow and gloom of night (along with some sunshine) in this rugged but beautiful Nordic island country.

Most photographers would love to upgrade their camera every time an innovative new model with enhanced capabilities is introduced. But let’s face it: The “latest and greatest” gear seems to come around every year or two, and many of us can’t afford to break the bank whenever that happens.

There’s an old saying that you’re not a “real photographer” until you switch the camera’s mode dial from Auto to Manual. While we think that notion is somewhat overblown, there are definitely advantages to manual photography.
