Is Photographic Time Travel, the Next Big Thing?

Given the impressive pace of technological innovation in the photographic industry, there’s very little that makes us pause and say, “Really, you’re kidding, right?” But that was exactly my response after hearing from the head of Swedish startup Memoto who is preparing to launch a truly unique micro-device intended to let you “effortlessly travel back in time to that moment when you met the first love of your life, the day your daughter took her first step, or that night you laughed away the night with friends.”

Martin Källström, CEO of Memoto, explains the tiny, wearable camera connects to your clothing with a stainless steel clip and is designed to capture every moment of your life as it happens. Advanced geotagging software then organizes the 5-megapixel images to be easily accessed—even after many years.

Once connect to your computer via a standard USB interface, the camera automatically uploads its photos to the Memoto web service which catalogs the images by time, date and location—including exposure metadata for later retrieval.

Camera specs include automatic image capture every 30 seconds, rechargeable battery lasting up to two-days, 36x36x9mm image size, and a built-in accelerometer ensuring photos are correctly oriented regardless of how the camera is worn. You can learn more about the Memoto camera and join the conversation at www.facebook.com/Memotocompany and www.twitter.com/Memototeam.

The Memoto camera will be available in early 2013 in a choice of three colors (gray, white and orange) for $279. The time-travel space suit is optional.
