Like many “serious” photographers, I’m unapologetic about owning quite a few cameras, including a DSLR, two mirrorless systems, and a vintage 35mm SLR. My arsenal also includes an array of nice glass to support the foregoing, and a few historically interesting (but not particularly useful) models.

The 24.5MP Nikon D780 is a DSLR. Remember those? The D780, which was introduced by Nikon in January, is a "throwback" camera in other ways as well. It uses the venerable F-mount introduced on the Nikon F in 1959 and features a 44mm throat with a 46.5mm flange-to-focal plane distance.

Like many photographers these days, I often carry a compact mirrorless camera while traveling, intent on lightening my load. But I recently had an opportunity to hit the road with Canon’s new mid-sized EOS 90D DSLR, which boasts a 32.5MP APS-C image sensor and a host of advanced features. And, frankly, the Canon 90D performed so well that I didn’t begrudge the added weight of carrying a DSLR.

The Canon EOS Rebel SL3 ($649 with the 18-55mm kit lens) is the latest in a series of compact Canon DSLRs that seem designed to compete with the size of mirrorless cameras. And while the Canon Rebel SL series has grown slightly since being introduced in 2013, these changes were part of a strategy of adding capabilities that were missing in entry-level competitors from other manufacturers.

The K-1 was launched back in 2016 but this first-time full-frame DSLR from Pentax is still a solid camera to buy today, according to classic gear guru Mattias Burling. In Burling’s video below with “5 Reasons to Buy the Pentax K-1 in 2019,” he calls the Pentax K-1 an “affordable full frame monster.”

Street photography—walking around with a camera, poised to capture life on the fly—has never been more popular than it is now. Back in the day, masters like Alfred Eisenstaedt and Henri Cartier-Bresson prowled the streets with classic film-based Leica rangefinders, but today most street shooters opt for modern digital cameras.
