There are lots of apps out there for converting your images into classic looking black-and-white shots but few with the pedigree of Macphun’s new Tonality program. Created, in part, by several former members of Nik Software, who were behind the popular Silver Efex Pro black-and-white app, Tonality aims to to take monochrome conversion one step further.

Adobe announced this morning that final release versions of Lightroom 5.6 and Adobe Camera Raw (ACR) 8.6 are now available.

Adobe customers can can get the apps through the update mechanism in Photoshop CC and Photoshop CS6, or through the download links at the bottom of this page. Adobe says these updates correct "issues reported in earlier versions of Lightroom 5 and Camera Raw 8," without being specific about what those issues were.

Canon took the wraps off two new compact, superzoom cameras this morning: the PowerShot SX520 HS and the PowerShot SX400 IS digital cameras. The new PowerShot SX520 HS features a whopping 42x Optical Zoom lens (equivalent to 24-1008mm) and the PowerShot SX400 IS has a 30x Optical Zoom (equivalent to 24-720mm).

American photographic artist Janelle Lynch had the honor of being the first Artist-in-Residence at the Burchfield Penney Art Center located in Buffalo, New York. (The Art Center is only museum dedicated to the art of noted American painter Charles E. Burchfield and the artists of Western New York.) Captivated and ultimately drawn to the area by Burchfield’s work, Lynch also found creative inspiration for her verdant photos in Henry David Thoreau’s nature writings and philosophy, which suggests that the natural world is made up of spirits and is part of a far greater spirituality.

Pentax has unveiled a new limited edition "Prestige" version of its K-3 digital SLR with a distinctive gunmetal chassis. According to Pentax, the K-3 is a special edition camera created to commemorate “the many awards bestowed upon the K-3” by photography publications and websites.
