Canon held its once-every-five-years Canon Expo 2015 show in New York City last September where the Tokyo-based company pulled back the curtain on some potentially groundbreaking imaging technology. Part science lab and part marketing showcase, the event drew tens of thousands of buyers, dealers, and distributors of Canon products (along with a large group of journalists) eager to see what the company had up its sleeve.

Sony stepped up its 4K game at CES. The company introduced a powerful and tough new POV  camera, the 4K Action Cam. The new model, known as the FDR-X1000V, is a compact, splash-proof POV camera that allows users to easily capture stunning 4K content (3840x2160@30p 100Mbps1/60Mpbs), which can be played back on a compatible 4K TV directly from the camera through HDMI. It also features enhanced HD video performance with upgraded stabilization, image quality and high-frame rate shooting.

Along with the two new lens cameras announced this morning, Sony has just unveiled a super small POV (point-of-view) camera: the Action Cam Mini, model HDR-AZ1. The Action Cam Mini is clearly designed to compete with the popular GoPro camera models that have dominated the POV market.

A new start-up company called Z Camera has just unveiled the E1, a GoPro-style camera that uses a Micro Four Thirds sensor, takes interchangeable lenses, and is capable of shooting 4K video. We got some hands-on time with the E1 last week during a meeting with Z Camera’s founder, Jason Zhang. Images of the camera in this story are from that meeting.
