Nikon Releases New Digital SLR, Coolpix and Film SLR Cameras

Nikon has announced their lineup for the fall in anticiplation of photokina, the worldwide trade show to be held in Germany in the coming weeks. Following is a synopsis from the Nikon release. Watch for complete details in coming issues of Shutterbug.

Nikon D2X:
Using brand new innovations in sensor design and image processing, the D2X delivers sharp images with very fine gradations of tone and 12.4 megapixel resolution. Photographers are now rid of the dilemma of choosing between high resolution and high speed, because even at a tremendous size of 12.4 megapixels, the D2X can comfortably shoot full resolution images at 5 frames per second (up to 21 consecutive JPEGs and 15 NEFs).

Nikon Coolpix 8800:
The Coolpix 8800 is the most powerful compact digital camera available to consumers boasting 8-megapixel resolution matched to a high-powered 10x optical Zoom-Nikkor ED lens. To complement this versatile and precise lens, Nikon has incorporated its Vibration Reduction (VR) System into the Coolpix 8800, which automatically detects and compensates for the small camera movements that cause image blur.

Nikon Coolpix 8400:
The 8.0 megapixel Nikon Coolpix 8400 features the widest-angle of coverage of any digital camera available today, offering photo purists and creative photographers the answer to their search for true wide-angle photography from a compact digital camera. The Coolpix 8400 provides users with a versatile ultra-wide 24-85mm (35mm equivalent) zoom Extra-low Dispersion (ED) glass lens for unmatched image capability and the ability to capture expansive scenes in a single frame.

Nikon Coolpix 4800:
The Coolpix 4800 is a 4.0-megapixel compact digital camera with a powerful 8.3x optical zoom, giving its user a zoom equivalent of 36-300mm, in a product that weighs only 9 oz. This makes the Coolpix 4800 the smallest 8.3x zoom camera in its class.

Nikon F6:
The Nikon F6 35mm film SLR camera earns its right to become the next flagship Nikon F-Series professional camera by incorporating remarkable new technologies and design enhancements that give photographers who prefer film the highest level of performance in an SLR camera. The F6 features the new Multi-CAM2000 11-area AF system for exceptionally high-speed autofocus operation with outstanding accuracy, and the powerful Nikon Creative Lighting System for unprecedented i-TTL controlled flash photography.
