New Video Shows Hotly Anticipated Zeiss ZX1 Full Frame Compact Camera Being Tested in a Street Shoot

It’s real and it’s coming. That’s the message we got from a new video showing the much-anticipated Zeiss ZX1 full frame compact camera being tested by a professional photographer during a street shoot.

We’ve embedded the clip below, which features Sabrina Weniger using the Zeiss ZX1 during a shoot in the streets of Dusseldorf, Germany’s Little Tokyo. Weniger is part of a select group of early ZX1 testers, Zeiss said.

“I find the camera is super-intuitive to use,” Weniger says in the video. “It feels special, it’s soft.”

Shutterbug shared some exclusive photos of the ZX1, which has Adobe Photoshop Lightroom CC Mobile built into the camera, that we shot during the PhotoPlus Expo show in New York City in October 2018. The Zeiss-designed, 37.4MP ZX1 was on display under glass at Zeiss’ booth at PhotoPlus.

Since the PhotoPlus Expo show, there’s been very little news about the ZX1, though Zeiss has said the camera is slated to go on sale in early 2019. Pricing still has not been announced yet.

Other unique features of the Zeiss ZX1 include a newly designed, integrated Zeiss Distagon 35mm f/2 T* lens, a 4.3-inch multi-touch display on back of the camera with a slightly bent shape, which is meant to separate the live view from the control elements. There’s also an OLED electronic viewfinder,

Uniquely, the ZX1 has a 512GB SSD drive integrated into the camera, allowing photographers to store approximately 6,800 Raw files (DNG) or over 50,000 JPEGs without needing a memory card. In fact, the camera has no memory card slots at all.

The Zeiss ZX1 has connectivity options including WiFi, Bluetooth and USB-C, letting users upload selected images from the camera directly to the Internet without having to transfer to memory cards or other external devices. Meanwhile, users can add over-the-air software updates to the camera without requiring a computer connection.
