Sands Of Time
Andrei Duman shot this beautiful, ghostly image in Kolmanskop, a German ghost town in the Namib Desert in Southern Namibia, Africa. The town was once the heart of a diamond rush in the 1900s that drew hordes of German miners. But when the diamond fields dried up after World War I, the miners left the town and it was abandoned in 1954. Duman shot the image in May 2014 as personal work. He used a Canon EOS 5D Mark III with a TS-E 17mm f/4L lens. Settings were ISO 200, 1/50 sec at f/7.1. “The sand, through time, has managed to break doors from their hinges, crawl up staircases and meticulously position itself in wonderful patterns amongst the rubble,” Duman says. “Finding the right light was the biggest challenge throughout the day because there was a great deal of open space and the sun would create prominent shadows from all directions.” You can see more of Duman’s work at www.andreiduman.com.
