Canon 50mm RF Lens vs 50mm EF Lens: Is There a Huge Difference in Quality? (VIDEO)

With more and more photographers considering switching from DSLRs to mirrorless cameras, one of the biggest factors in the decision-making process is lens choice. Are the new lenses designed for mirrorless cameras better than their DSLR-centric counterparts?

That's what photographer Brett Seeley decides to figure out in the below video where he tests a Canon RF 50mm f/1.2L lens vs a Canon EF 50mm f/1.2L on a Canon EOS R full frame mirrorless camera while photographing fitness model Aiko on the island of Maui in Hawaii.

Sound like a fun test? We thought so.

"In this video, I have my buddy Kao test out his RF lens against my EF lens to test how much difference it makes," Seeley says. "This definitely isn't the most clinical comparison, but you'll be able to see a couple of images from each lens. Let me know if you can tell a difference in image quality."

Watch the comparison video below and let us know if you think the mirrorless lens fared better than the DSLR lens or vice versa. As Seeley says, it's a loose test and you can tell this trio is having a good time during the shoot. New photographers should make sure to catch Aiko's tips at the 2-minute mark where she shares advice on working with models.

Afterwards, make sure you visit Seeley's YouTube channel to view more Hawaii-based photography videos filled with the "Aloha spirit."
