Canon announced today it is commemorating the 80th anniversary of its very first camera: the Kwanon. Initially produced in prototype form in 1934, the Kwanon was Japan’s first 35mm focal-plane-shutter camera.

Ricoh Imaging Americas Corp. just announced the launch of the new PENTAX K-S1 D-SLR camera. This model offers users a newly designed 20.12 megapixel CMOS image sensor (with a sensitivity of ISO 51200), an in-body shake reduction (SR) mechanism, an AA (Anti-Aliasing) filter simulator for moiré reduction, a 100 percent field of view glass pentaprism viewfinder (with a magnification of approximately 0.95) and 5.4 fps shooting at a fast 1/6000 shutter speed. 

Photographer Dorothea Lange is best noted for the image titled “Migrant Mother”—a haunting portrait that came to symbolize the intense suffering caused by America’s Great Depression. Lange’s body of work contains a stunning collection of images that document some of the most difficult times in our history such as the Great Depression, the Dust Bowl and the Japanese American internments camps of World War II.
