Formal portraits and other people pictures are typically most compelling when precise focus is attained on a subject’s eyes, but that’s not always easy to accomplish depending upon your camera settings. Even if you switch from multi- to single-point focus, there’s often a better way to get the job done.

Nikon, long favored by pros and advanced amateurs for cameras with state-of-the-art capabilities, has recently targeted budget-conscious photographers with mirrorless models offering an uncommon combination of value and price. A year ago, I reviewed the Nikon Z6, a nimble, full-frame mirrorless camera at a price of $1,995 for the body. While that camera was considerably less expensive than more advanced Nikon models, it’s more than twice the cost of the new Nikon Z50 that we’ll look at today.

Street photography, capturing authentic, un-posed pictures of people being themselves, is a genre that dates back to the mid 19th century. It rapidly evolved with the introduction smaller cameras like the 35mm Leica I of 1925, and as faster films and high-speed lenses of superior quality became available.

I’ve been intrigued by Canon's EOS M6 mirrorless camera ever since a trip to Florida last year when I saw a YouTuber vlogging with it. I was impressed by the Canon M6's compact size as well as the quality of the video footage he created when I viewed it later.
