Photographers who like to print their images on canvas for an arty look, should check out LexJet’s latest offering. Called Sunset Photo Canvas Paper, this 230g, premium matte paper is embossed with a 2-over-1 weave canvas texture.

From the late 1960s to today, David Bowie’s spark of creative genius has burned white hot, allowing him to build an impressive career and a highly unique body of work. He has the unmatched ability to successfully harness the best trends in music, art, photography and fashion and blend them together to form unique and ever changing performance personas with their own musical style and look. Each one of his characters seems to be an entirely different person offering an eager audience new musical and visual experiences. Most of us are familiar with albums like, The Man Who Sold The World, Hunky Dory, The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and The Spiders from Mars, Heroes, Diamond Dogs and Young Americans.

The International Center of Photography (ICP) in New York City has announced it will be the first museum in the United States to present the Sebastiao Salgado exhibition, Genesis. The show features a collection of over 200 of Salgado’s expertly crafted black-and-white images.

The Nikon Df is a retro-style SLR camera with a 16MP full-frame sensor. While other Nikon SLRs, such as the D4, are clearly aimed at the professional and enthusiast markets, with all the attendant features of modern D-SLRs, the Df is clearly a “classic” camera approach, intended for “purists.” That may be the reason why the Df offers no video capabilities, for example.

This month’s Picture This! assignment was the “Power of B&W” and we were thrilled by the many and varied images we received. Clearly there is a love and appreciation of monochrome photography, and we saw images that ranged from portraits to abstracts to intense studies of line, form, and tonality. Perhaps the most intriguing aspect of black and white is the ability to interpret the image through contrast and tonal manipulations (even constrained HDR) without verging into the kinds of tricks to which color seems more prone, all while maintaining a certain photographic “credibility.”

Unified Color Technologies announced HDR Expose 3.1, a significant update to its standalone HDR image processing software. HDR Expose 3.1’s newest features, including faster merge and alignment tools, improved de-ghosting algorithms, a new panorama batch processing assist mode and a redesigned merge dialog, are designed to optimize any photographers’ HDR workflow and efficiently produce, high-quality, true color HDR images.

Jeff Cable is one of many photographers these days discovering the glories of shooting aerial video and images with remote-controlled imaging drones. Cable recently turned his good buddy and Apple Computer legend Steve "Woz" Wozniak on to how easy and fun it is to fly these drones and shot a short video of the experience.

Hasselblad's gone "back to the future" with a new digital back designed to bring its V System analog cameras into the 21st Century. Called the CFV-50c, the CMOS sensor-based back will sell for 11,000 Euros (approximately $14,900) and is designed to work with "almost every V camera made by the company since 1957," Hasselblad said

Tamron recently added the SP 150-600mm f/5-6.3 Di VC USD (A011 for Nikon mount) and the 16-300mm f/3.5-6.3 Di II VC PZD macro (B016 for Canon and Nikon mount) to the lens profile for aberration correction offered for Adobe’s Photoshop CC, Camera Raw and Lightroom 5. The lens profile will be bundled with the Camera Raw 8.5 update and Lightroom 5.5. Customers who use these lenses will be able to utilize the software for easy correction of lens distortion, chromatic aberration and peripheral light fall-off based on design data.

Considering that this opticis only a tad slower than the Nikkor 200-400mm f/4, with a drop of a stop when you zoom out, has a 5x zoom range, is lighter, and costs about half of the near $7000 price tag of the 200-400mm f/4, it is certainly worthy of consideration for those who can appreciate what it has to offer in both range and versatility.
