Leica Pushes the Limits of Technology & Price with the New $13K Noctilux-M 75mm F/1.25 ASPH Lens

This morning Leica unveiled what they call “a revolution in portrait photography,” in the form of a high-speed Noctilux-M 75mm f/1.25 ASPH lens, featuring a fast maximum aperture and the promise of exceptional image quality, unique bokeh, and a price to match.

Scheduled for delivery in early 2018 at a cost of almost $13K ($12,795 to be exact), the Noctilux-M 75mm f/1.25 opens up new opportunities for both portrait and close-up photography. The lens offers a unique combination of features, including a wide maximum aperture, an 11-blade diagram, a shallow close-focusing distance of 2.7 ft., and a maximum reproduction ratio of 1:8.8.Leica’s Noctilux 75mm f/1.25 lens utilizes a sophisticated optical design with nine elements in six groups, including two aspherical elements for minimizing chromatic dispersion and other aberrations. The use of a floating element within the complex focusing mechanism is said to “guarantee a high level of imaging performance throughout the entire focusing range.”

The new Leica 75mm f/1.25 ASPH lens is just the latest entry in Leica’s renowned Noctilux line of precision, high-speed lenses that was launched 1966 with the introduction of the Noctilux 50mm f/1.2. All lenses in Leica’s Noctilux line are known for delivering superior results at maximum aperture, with a three-dimensional look for separating a subject from the background.
