Here's How to Take Great Macro Photos on a Budget (VIDEO)

You don't always need super-expensive, cutting edge photo gear to shoot knockout images. This is particularly true when it comes to macro photography, which you can actually shoot on a relatively small budget.

In the below video, professional macro photographer Ross Hoddinott of NatureTTL shows you how to capture eye-popping close-up shots without breaking the bank.

"I've been a photographer for over twenty years now and I’m in the fortunate position that I have a professional kit and I have a nice camera and good macro lenses," Hoddinott says. "But that wasn't always the case. When I started out I had to work on a budget. If you're just dabbling in macro photography for the first time or if you don't have the money to invest in a macro lens, then you'll want to know that there are other ways to get close to subjects. And today I'm going to show you the alternative to buying an expensive macro lens."

In the tutorial, Hoddinott shows you three ways to convert a standard, inexpensive lens into a macro-caliber optic along with other tips for shooting dynamite close-up shots of flora and fauna, insects and other small critters.
