Have an Extra $35,000 to Spend? You Can Place a Bid on Ansel Adams’ Arca-Swiss 4x5 View Camera

Here’s a great opportunity to own a piece of photographic history: The end of this month Heritage Auctions puts one of Ansel Adams' famous 4x5 cameras on the auction block. The sale in question is for an Arca-Swiss 4x5 view camera outfit used by the master from 1964–1968.

The auction goes live on October 27, 2016 with a starting bid of $35,000, which includes the historic camera, a tripod, and a case with three lenses and some accessories.

If the starting price sounds a bit dear, keep in mind that the camera was owned and used by one the most iconic American photographers in history. Moreover, “This will be the first time one of Ansel Adams’ view cameras has been offered at auction,” according to Heritage Auctions Director of Photography Nigel Russell.

Russell adds that this historic Arca Swiss 4x5 was the camera Adams used to capture his famous 1968 image  “Arches, North Court, Mission San Xavier Del Bac” in Tuscon, AZ.

Of course, the starting bid is likely to be a fraction of the final sale price, so maybe it’s time to start digging through your grandmother’s diamond jewelry. Get busy.
