Epson America Inc. has introduced a new digital workflow system that is tailor-made
for portrait photographers who are looking for an immediate and simple way to
increase their productivity, image quality and profitability. The Epson Gemini
K3 Portrait Printing System combines the benefits of Epson's UltraChrome
K3 photographic printing technology with new image management and enhancement
programs that are designed to dramatically improve the way portrait photographers
do business.

Epson Gemini K3 is designed to give portrait photographers a simple way to control
and speed up the entire print production process while eliminating their dependence
on printing labs, and lab-related issues such as delays, peak season cut-off
dates and unpredictable results. Whether a photographer captures all of their
images from a digital camera or with the combination of film and a scanner,
the Epson Gemini K3 Portrait System is engineered to help manage all their photographic
files in an organized method that enables them to quickly and easily select
the images they want to print. By having this system on site, photos can be
viewed by clients immediately and selecting images is simply a matter of mouse-clicking
their favorites.

Once images are selected, the photographer can quickly crop and retouch images
prior to creating proofs using either the system's built-in photo enhancement
software or with other programs such as Adobe Photoshop. When clients place
their orders, the photographer simply drags and drops the selected images into
built-in or custom-designed photo templates that enable them to print in a variety
of common or custom sizes, on different types of media and into a wide array
of custom packages. The system can save additional time by applying automatic
color corrections that are pre-determined by the photographer.

Epson UltraChrome K3 ink technology uses eight high-density pigments designed
to increase image quality for both professional color and black and white prints.
In addition to cyan, magenta, yellow, light cyan and light magenta, Epson UltraChrome
K3 features a unique three-level black ink system that simultaneously uses black,
light black and light light black inks. These new inks combined with Epson's
proprietary driver and screening technology are designed to create professional
neutral and toned black and white prints without color crossover or color casts.

The Epson Gemini K3 Portrait Printing system incorporates the Epson Stylus Pro
4800 printer (see review in Shutterbug at http://shutterbug.com/equipmentreviews/scanners_printers/1105epson)
which is capable of printing a wide selection of images up to 17 inches wide
with unprecedented image quality. In addition to printing on traditional E-surface
luster papers, Epson

Gemini K3 offers a wider range of media types such as photographic matte, fine
art and canvas. The printer also features a built-in, high-capacity paper tray
that can handle up to 100 cut-sheets of 8.3" x 11" photographic
media or up to 50 cut-sheets of photographic media up to 17" x 22".
As the photographer's business grows, or if they require printing in sizes
beyond 17 inches wide, he/she can print up to 24 inches or 44 inches wide (respectively)
by adding an Epson Stylus Pro 7800 or Stylus Pro 9800 printer to their existing
system.

Epson America, Inc. has unveiled its latest scanner for the advanced amateur
and creative consumer markets. The Epson Perfection V500 Photo color scanner
is said to provide professional results with 6400 dpi optical resolution. Also
featuring Epson's new ReadyScan LED technology, which delivers fast scans
and no warm-up time, the Epson V500 Photo is only $249.99.

With 6400 dpi optical resolution, users can create 17" x 22" or
bigger enlargements from film. Additionally, with 48-bit color depth and a 3.4
dynamic range, the Epson V500 Photo produces scans with brilliant, true-to-life
colors.

The energy-efficient ReadyScan LED technology completely eliminates warm-up
time both when turning on the scanner and when switching back-and-forth between
reflective and film scanning, as well as automatically turns off in standby
mode, using less power while offering greater productivity. Because the LED
is more efficient than cold cathode fluorescent lamps, users get fast scan speeds.
The ReadyScan LED also adjusts color of the light source based on the type of
original being scanned, using white light for positive film and blue light for
negative film, to produce precise and efficient scans. Additionally, the mercury-free
LEDs are friendly to the environment.

The Epson V500 Photo includes two powerful, yet easy-to-use complete photo restoration
solutions for advanced amateur photographers and creative consumers, including
Digital ICE and Epson Easy Photo Fix technology. Digital ICE is an innovative
technology that easily removes the appearance of dust and scratches from film,
eliminating the need for costly photo retouching services to get the best results.
Epson Easy Photo Fix restores faded color photos, slides and negatives back
to their original brilliance with one click.

Adding to the productivity of the EpsonV500 Photo scanner is a built-in transparency
unit (TPU) with a moving carriage and lamp optimized for scanning multiple 35mm
negatives, slides and medium-format film. The scanner can handle up to four
mounted slides or two film strips up to 12 total frames, or medium-format film
of 2-1/4", 120/220 and 6 x 12 cm. Additional features include an optional
Automatic Document Feeder (ADF) that enables users to quickly scan multiple
documents.

The Epson V500 Photo also comes with Epson Creativity Suite, which includes
Scan to E-Mail, Copy Utility and Scan to PDF; Adobe Photoshop Elements; and
ABBYY Fine Reader 6 Sprint Plus OCR (ABBYY Fine Reader®5 Sprint Plus OCR
for Mac). The scanner is compatible with Microsoft Windows 2000, Windows Me,
Windows XP, Windows Vista, Macintosh OS X 10.2.8 and later, and is also TWAIN
compliant.

The Epson V500 Photo can be purchased for an estimated street price of $249.99
from Epson authorized dealers, consumer electronic stores, mail order, distribution,
and on the Epson Store Web site (www.epsonstore.com).
The optional ADF will be available for an estimated street price of $199.99
on the Epson Store Web site. The Epson V500 Photo comes with a one-year limited
warranty. More information about the Epson V500 Photo and other Epson scanners
is available at www.epson.com

Epson America, Inc. has introduced the Epson PowerLite S4 -- a multi-purpose
3LCD projector in the sub-$700 category. Designed for on-the-go presenters, classroom
instructors and home users, the Epson PowerLite S4 projects presentations and
virtually all other forms of video content in up to 1,800 ANSI lumens of brightness
and SVGA (800 x 600) native resolution. Priced at $699 (estimated street price),
this 5.7-pound projector is easily transportable and features Epson technologies
that are designed to make setup and shut-down procedures as quick and trouble-free
as possible.

The Epson PowerLite S4 is designed to help reduce pre-presentation jitters and
stress on end users with unique, time-saving setup and shutdown features. The
projector's power-on verification tone gives presenters immediate assurance
that their projector is running the moment they press the on/off button, and just
four seconds later, the projector already begins to display an image. In addition,
the Epson PowerLite S4 automatically recognizes and adapts to video signals coming
from virtually all types of computers and video devices. And upon conclusion of
a presentation, Epson's Instant Off feature saves presenters even more time
and reduces further hassles by enabling them to turn off, unplug and pack up the
projector immediately and safely without a cool-down period.

The Epson PowerLite S4's 170-watt lamp produces 1,800 ANSI lumens of brightness
for vibrant, clear viewing of big screen images, even in well-lit rooms. It also
offers seven selectable color modes that are pre-programmed and optimized to enhance
image quality when connected to various video devices. Depending on the selected
application, users can choose color modes such as presentation, theater, gaming,
and even a photo mode with black-and-white enhancement levels to show off highlights
in photographs.

Epson 3LCD technology is a solid-state optical engine that works without a moving
color wheel, resulting in accurate color registration, detailed video and data
images that are crisp and rainbow-free.

The Epson PowerLite S4 is now available through national retailers, pro audio/visual
dealers, mail order, and PC resellers. Epson's PowerLite projectors come
with a two-year limited warranty that includes three elite technical support services
-- two-year Epson PrivateLine availability, two-year Road Service Program
and two-year International Warranty. Through the PrivateLine, projector owners
can directly access an expedited support telephone line by using a phone card
that is included with the product.
