World Press Photo (WPP) has yanked a prestigious award from a controversial photographer accused of staging his images. The WPP, in an announcement posted on its website, said after receiving new information about Giovanni Troilo’s first-prize Contemporary Issues story, the organization decided that “the story was not in compliance with the entry rules and therefore the award must be revoked.”

Roberto Neumiller is one angry photographer. A well-respected photojournalist based in Paris, Neumiller went to the African Sahel in 2006 where he photographed the daily lives of workers in the region. When the images were originally published they were widely praised.

My dog-eared copy of Josef Koudelka’s Gypsies sits in the bookcase next to Cartier-Bresson’s Decisive Moments and Robert Frank’s The Americans. Like those books, it was fundamental to my development as a photographer. From the moment I saw it I was mesmerized by its stunning black-and-white images. Published by Aperture Books in 1975, it contained page after page of Koudelka’s dark and brooding photographs of European gypsies; the Romani or Roma people.

Sony announced a variety of new Alpha E-mount lenses and converters tonight. The Sony lenses include four new "FE" full-frame E-mount lenses designed to complement Sony’s Alpha 7 mirrorless camera lineup.

John P. Zager really went to the dogs with today’s Shutterbug Photo of the Day. Zager’s image shows the start of Alaska’s Iditarod Sled Dog race, which he captured with a Nikon D200 and Nikkor 70-200 f/2.8 lens set at 86mm. The rest of Zager’s settings were ISO 200, 1/1000 sec and f/5.6.
