Reader Photo of the Month: Great Story Behind a Cool Image

Shutterbug reader JP Gregg captured this striking image of a sunset reflection in a puddle while walking west down an avenue in Venice, Florida, after dinner one August evening.

Being a daily practitioner of a discipline he refers to as “visualization with composition,” he was mindful of the image because the area had received a lot of afternoon rain that week and he was looking for reflections in particular. As to how he captured the image, Gregg says, “I have a style where I put the camera as close to the ground as possible for perspective, or I won’t take the shot.”

In this case, he pulled out his “small but powerful” Nikon Coolpix S3600 and placed it “on or just below the curb.” He also acknowledges that to capture this image “all the elements came together for a great frame.”
