Full Frame: The Story Behind the Image

Call Of The Mild
Jim Graham captured this adorable image of a sleeping sled dog in front of a majestic backdrop during a trip this past summer to Greenland. The image was shot in Ilulissat, which is in western Greenland, approximately 220 miles north of the Arctic Circle.

“Our goal was to photograph as much ice—big ice—as we could,” Graham said about his photo adventure. “Some of our group tended to a more documentary style, while others pushed their work to abstraction. I’d like to think I fell somewhere in the middle.”

During the trek, Graham used a Nikon D800 and D4 and four lenses: a 14-24mm, 24-70mm, 70-200mm, and 80-400mm VR II. He carried all his gear in a MindShift Gear rotation180˚ bag. When he got home, he printed his final images on Moab’s Somerset Museum Rag and the new Juniper paper.
