Final Shot: Our Favorite Reader Photo of the Month

Sole Survivor
In October 2014, Shutterbug reader Gerry Groeber visited the Oak Creek Canyon in Sedona, Arizona, to take photographs. Months earlier, a “devastating” fire tore through Oak Creek, but luckily much of the canyon was spared from the fire. While exploring the area he came upon this scene of a solitary tree and felt compelled to take a photo. “This lone tree seemed to be a survivor,” Groeber says. To capture the image he used a Nikon D7100 and a Nikkor 55-300mm f/4.5-5.6 zoom lens at 300mm, ISO 500, f/5.6, 1/6400 second. To view more of Groeber’s photos, visit gerrygroeberphotography.com.
