DON’T Make these 6 Photo Editing MISTAKES & Do Things Right (VIDEO)

Last week we featured a popular tutorial, explaining how to avoid common shooting errors that can be real image killers. Today were turning to the processing side of our craft, identifying six common image-editing mistakes that are easily fixed.

Alex Armitage is an adept photographer and instructor who says, “I see these mistakes from photographers all the time.” He even admits to making a few of them himself. What you’ll find in the video below isn’t a fancy trick, but rather several solid tips that will change the way you approach the editing process as a whole.

The goal of this episode is to help you work faster, more efficiently, and achieve superior results. As you listen to Armitage’s advice, we encourage you to evaluate your personal workflow, keep an open mind, and consider if it’s time to try a different approach.

One common mistake is going overboard with adjustments, and Armitage strongly recommends being more “gentle” so your images don’t look overcooked. This call for restraint applies to everything from sharpness, exposure, and contrast adjustments, to a variety of color enhancements. Armitage demonstrates several instances in which less is definitely more.

You’ll also learn the best way to deal with saturation, haloing and white balance to achieve natural looking results. Armitage also has a few tips for effective cropping, and he explains several ways your camera’s histogram can be an invaluable friend.

After watching the video, head over to Armitage’s YouTube channel where you’ll find more shooting and editing advice.
