New York is a spectacular city from just about any angle. But these dizzying images looking down on the city’s skyline from atop tall skyscrapers are absolutely breathtaking.

Everyone loves B&W photography and most shooters appreciate great sports and architectural imagery too. But how often have you seen images like these that combine the best of all three genres?

Sara Lee is an underwater photographer who became enchanted with the sea while growing up in Kona on the Big Island of Hawaii. She captured the dramatic images you see here of adventurer and freediver Alison Teal swimming with giant manta rays at night.

Australian nature photographer Warren Keelan lives on the South Coast of New South Wales, and has always been fascinated by the ocean and its ever-changing forms. The remarkable photos you see here are a testament to his goal of, “creating an image that tells a story or leaves an impression on the viewer."

London-based photographer Justin Carey says he is “fascinated by solitude, sentiment and the particular beauty found in unexpected places,” and his nighttime street photography captures moods and textures that are simply not possible during the day.

Documentary photography captures the truth but it also tells a story. And that is exactly what Nina Berman has always aimed to do, and what she succeeds in doing, as the Brits say, so brilliantly. Her pictures evoke our emotions; they often shock; but they never fail to open our eyes to the world around us.

We don’t subscribe to the notion of some so-called purists that “Photoshop” is a dirty word. After all, some of the best works of iconic film photographers owe their impact to a mastery of the darkroom. The before and after images you see here from young Russian digital artist Max Asabin show that he definitely pushes the envelope when it comes to the digital darkroom.
