Kingston Technology Company, Inc. has announced it is expanding
its line of CompactFlash Elite Pro cards with the addition of a new 8-GB card.
The card is for studio, catalog and portrait photographers who need to produce
large files for catalog reproduction and other commercial purposes.  The
8-GB CompactFlash Elite Pro card joins the company’s 512 MB, 1-GB, 2-GB
and 4-GB CompactFlash cards. When used in conjunction with matching high-performance
digital devices, Kingston’s entire line of CF Elite Pro cards are said
to provide ultra-fast transfer times with read speeds up to 8 MB/sec. and write
speeds up to 6.75 MB/sec.

Kingston’s 8-GB Type I CompactFlash Elite Pro card has an
MSRP of $399.99. Kingston notes that some of the listed capacity is used for
formatting and other functions and thus is not available for data storage. For

The Gallery Art & Design in Richmond, VA is hosting their
first annual International Juried Photography competition to benefit the
renowned Richmond's Children Hospital.
This year's theme is "Colors of Life." The
deadline for submissions is Sept 1, 2006. Anyone may apply (18+ of age)
with any photographic medium. There will be a prestigious jury composed
of local and international art curators and collectors electing the top
three finalists who will receive awards of $1000, $500, and $250 respectively.
The Top Ten Finalists will exhibit at the culminating night gala in February
'07 at the historic Jefferson Hotel Ballroom; there will be an awards ceremony
for the artists and a silent auction of their work with the net proceeds
going to the Children's Hospital to help double the size of their Transitional
Care Unit (TCU). There will be International media coverage, and thus an
opportunity to introduce work to an International market.

Sony's (alpha) DSLR-A100 system features a  10.2-megapixel APS CCD image
sensor andwill be introduced with 19 high-quality Sony lenses. All will be compatible
with most of the former Konica-Minolta Maxxum mount lenses. The system will
include a wide range of accessories as well. Sony has developed a new Dynamic
Range Optimizer image analysis technology that is said by the company to provide
exceptional picture quality and natural color reproduction, along with a new
Bionz image processing engine. This new engine supports a continuous burst mode
for fast-action shooting and performs intelligent power management.

has introduced the new D2XS professional digital SLR camera, which shares many
performance and design innovations with the current D2X camera, including the
12.4 million pixel DX format CMOS image sensor. The D2XS also has a range of
upgraded features, including refined viewfinder performance that makes for easier
composition when shooting in Nikon's exclusive High-Speed Crop mode, a new 2.5
inch LCD with a 170-degree wide viewing angle, which is individually calibrated
at the factory to ensure consistent color fidelity, significantly increased
battery life and a wide range of firmware enhancements. Options such as the
