The Sigma Corporation just unveiled the new the Sigma 85mm F1.4 DG DN Art lens, which the company says is "a completely new design for full-frame mirrorless cameras, as the 'DN' designation indicates." This fast aperture Sigma portrait prime lens, which has a compact, dust-and splash-proof design, comes in both L-Mount and Sony E-Mount versions for mirrorless cameras.

Along with this morning’s lens announcement, Sigma just introduced the new compact Sigma sd Quattro and Sigma sd Quattro H mirrorless camera systems with Foveon Quattro sensors. The Sigma sd Quattro features an APS-C sized sensor and the Sigma sd Quattro H has a slightly larger APS-H sized sensor.

Yes, the rumors were true. The Sigma Corporation of America introduced what it’s calling the “world’s first” 20mm f/1.4 lens for full frame digital SLRs. The Sigma 20mm F1.4 DG HSM Art lens, which will be on display at next week’s PhotoPlus Expo show in New York City, will go on sale in late november for $899.

The Sigma Corporation has announced the launch of the new Sigma SD14 Digital
SLR camera. The new SD14, powered by the 14 megapixels Foveon X3 direct-image-sensor,
features four JPEG recording modes, large and bright pentaprism viewfinder with
98% coverage, a built-in flash with a Guide Number of 11, 5-point AF system,
a large 2.5-Inch 150,000 pixel resolution LCD monitor as well as a durable shutter

Every photographer has a favorite lens, depending upon the type of photography they enjoy most. But what really gets my creative juices flowing are the creative opportunities unlocked by an ultra-wide lens like the new Sigma 12-24mm DG f/4 HSM zoom.

Our Picture This! assignment this month was Silhouettes and readers responded with a wide variety of images that used shadow and background effectively. In essence, the inversion of context and figure was used for both compositional and contextual ends. Often mysterious and elusive, images using this technique more often than not coax our mind to form a picture of what lies within the deep shadow. Think of Thai Shadow Puppets and the way their forms play along the screen, and how the drama of the play becomes somehow more poignant when we fill in the blank, if you will, with our own references and dreams.
