Tamron 28-75mm F/2.8 vs Sony 24-70mm F/2.8 GM: Mid-Range Zoom Lens Shootout (VIDEO)

The Sony FE 24-70mm F2.8 GM and Tamron 28-75mm f/2.8 Di III RXD lenses share a similar focal length, and both can be used with Sony's full frame mirrorless E-mount cameras. But they differ dramatically in price.

The Sony FE 24-70mm F2.8 GM is premium lens and retails for nearly $2,200. On the other hand, the Tamron 28-75mm f/2.8 Di III RXD has a more affordable $879 price tag. The Sony is bigger and heavier than the Tamron as well.

Photographer Manny Ortiz has shot with both lenses and while he feels the Sony is the better lens overall, he's happy with the Tamron too, especially for the price. But is it worth him to switch from the top-notch Sony to the lower priced but still reliable Tamron?

In the below comparison video review, he tests out both while capturing images of his model wife Diane. Watch the clip and see how the Sony and Tamron fare in Sharpness, Image Quality, and Video Autofocus (AF) tests. We usually don't give away any spoilers in these comparison reviews but if you look at the title of his video -- which ends with the words "I'm Switching!" -- you might get a hint of what he decides to do.
