Breaking Light
Shutterbug reader Joshua Moore is a volunteer photographer for the National Park Service and travels to many parks. On his way to the Cumberland Gap National Historical Park in Kentucky, Moore often visits Rogersville, Tennessee. In particular, a small inlet that feeds into the Cherokee Lake. Out for an afternoon drive with his family in Rogersville, “the sky just lit up,” so Moore made his way back to the inlet that he’d been wanting to shoot for a while. “I had been to this spot a bunch of different times and never really got anything I liked,” Moore says. “This was perfect timing.” He captured the shot with a Nikon D7000 and a Nikkor 18-55mm lens on a Manfrotto BeFree tripod, using a Nikon shutter release. Moore notes that he had a CPL filter on, but turned it away from the water. To view more of Moore’s work, visit or find him on Instagram: @jtm71.
