EPIC Urban Landscape Photos: Settings, Gear & More (VIDEO)

One of the best things about landscape photography is the opportunity it provides for getting out of Dodge to explore mountains, valleys, rivers, and other photogenic aspects of the great outdoors.

But what if you live in the city, and don’t have the time or money to travel to a distant location?  Well, we’ll let you in on a secret: There’s actually a picturesque jungle near where you live! It called the urban jungle, and it offers a variety of great opportunities for epic urban images.

In the video below from B&H Photo Video, an accomplished New York pro reveals how he turns the city into an eye-catching tableau for gallery-quality imagery. Hugh and his wife Claudia Brownstone are the brains behind “Three Blind Pigs and an Elephant”—an eclectic mix of stunning street photography, photo workshops, filmmaking, mentoring, and more.

For this behind-the-scene episode you’ll join Hughg Brownstone as he  discusses how to turn the urban landscape into a masterpiece, with helpful recommendations for camera settings, composition,  perspective, and gear. He also provides his take on an ongoing debate among serious urban photographers; namely, color vs. b&w.

Brownstone’s calm, reassuring approach makes it easy and unintimidating to understand his straightforward tips (as does the soft mellow jazz playing in the background). You’ll be surprised at the images you’ll be able to capture in the city or town where you live.

By the way, if you’re curious about the name Three Blind Pigs and an Elephant, and you have an hour or two to spare, Hugh’s a great guy and I’m sure he would love to give you the backstory. Seriously, though, you should take a look at Brownstone’s very interesting website when you get a chance.
