Back-Button Focus vs Shutter Focus: Which One Is Better? (VIDEO)
If you’ve been around cameras for a while, you’ve probably tried out the back-button focus feature. It’s definitely a cool tool that lets you focus with a button on the rear of your camera, before capturing the shot by hammering the shutter, but is it better than the classic method of half-pressing the shutter to lock in focus?
That’s the question photographer Pierre T. Lambert tries to answer in the below video titled “Back-Button Focus vs Shutter Focus: Which One Is Right for You?!”
Right off the bat in the video, Lambert mentions that he doesn’t, typically, use back-button focus with his camera because he tried it in the past but didn’t like it. However, after many commenters on his YouTube channel implored him to give it a shot again, he did, which resulted in this clip weighing the pros and cons of the two methods.
Check it out and then determine for yourself whether you like back button focus better than shutter focus. To us, neither method is “better” than the other, it’s just a matter of personal preference.
