Advanced mirrorless cameras are posing a serious challenge to traditional DSLRs, but the latest members of the mirror-box-brigade are fighting back—offering new cutting-edge features, awesome performance, and a wider lens selection.

On a recent trip to Jordan I was going through my nightly routine of cleaning the cameras’ sensors and backing up the day’s shoot when it came to me that these two exercises in what you might call preventive maintenance—keeping dust off the sensors and making sure my pictures are safe—are among the things that concern me most as a professional travel photographer.

The latest in a series of tests on the impact of airport security equipment
on imaging devices and media shows that neither DVDs nor DVD players are damaged
by X-ray scanners or metal-detector wands. The recent tests of scanner models
currently in use in the U.S. transportation industry were jointly conducted
by the International Imaging Industry Association (I3A), the leading global
association for the imaging industry, and the U.S. Transportation Security Administration
(TSA).

DXG USA has announced the availability of the DXG-528, a 5.1 megapixel CCD
digital camera. The DXG-528 features a slim aluminum housing, 2.4" LTPS
LCD screen, Pentax 3X optical zoom (with three aspherical lenses), built-in
32MB flash memory, SD/MMC card slot, MPEG-4 video with sound and Direct Print
capability. The camera also offers voice recorder and MP3 functionality, as
