The Freestyle Creative Center for Photography is proud to host a premier showing
of Holga images by Freestyle Advisory Board member Michelle Bates, titled “Toying With Creativity”. Michelle is a champion of the alternative (or "toy")
camera genre, noted especially for her work with the all-plastic Holga camera.
Her award-winning pictures have been featured and published across the nation,
most recently in her new book "Plastic Cameras: Toying with Creativity,"
considered by many the definitive primer for the world of toy camera photography.
Michelle's images evoke a multitude of emotions, from poignant to whimsical
to ethereal. They are a throwback to days when photography was considered more
of a joyous activity than a specialized craft.
“Toying With Creativity” will commence on Thursday, February 22,
2007 at 6:00 PM, with an artist reception and book signing, which is open to
the public. In addition, Michelle will present a highly informative seminar
on the Holga and other plastic cameras, as part of Freestyle's Saturday
Lecture Series, Saturday, February 24, at 1:00 PM, at the Creative Center For
Photography. Details about “Toying With Creativity”, The Saturday
Lecture Series, and Michelle Bates can be found via the following links:
