Enjoy These These Striking Images from the 2016 B&W Child Photography Competition

The B&W Child Photography Contest is an international competition that has resulted in many gorgeous images since its inception three years ago. The contest is judged twice each year, and the stunning images you see here were named winners in the second half of the 2016 competition.

As the name of the event suggests, the competition is devoted exclusively to the art of photographing children in b&w, and photographers over the age of 18 are eligible to enter images in a number of categories. The lead image above by Magdalena Hutchins took top honors in the Documentary and Street category.

Categories include Portrait, Fine Art, Lifestyle, Conceptual & Photo Manipulation, Documentary & Street, and Silhouette. Cash prizes are awarded to the first, second and third place winners in each category. Guomiao Zhou won Second Place in the Silhouette category for the stunning shot above of children playing on the shore of the Indian Ocean.

Contest rules for the B&W Child Photography competition permit both grayscale images and those using toning of one color, with only digital files eligible for submission. The unusual image above by Ewa Cwikla took First Place in the Conceptual & Photo Manipulation category.

1st Place, Lifestyle category ©Karolina Wawrzyniak, Ireland

The competition was judged by an international jury of photographers from Spain, Serbia, Germany and the U.S. The panel awarded First Place in the Lifestyle category to Karolina Wawrzyniak for the image you see above.

2nd Place, Fine Art category ©Alicja Brodowicz, Poland
