Canon Unveils 30.4MP 5D Mark IV DSLR & Two Lenses; We Take It For a Test Drive (VIDEO)

Yes, it’s official. Canon just announced the long rumored 5D Mark IV DSLR and Shutterbug was one of a handful of media outlets to get our hands on this new 30.4MP Full Frame camera and take it for a test-drive.

The 5D Mark IV is the long awaited successor to the 5D Mark III from 2012 and the latest in this popular line of pro DSLRs from Canon that are aimed at wedding, portrait, landscape, and other serious photographers. Incidentally, the original 5D came out in 2005 and was followed by the 5D Mark II in 2008, which was the first full frame DSLR to offer HD video shooting.

But enough of the history lesson. Let’s run down the key specs and features of the new Canon 5D Mark IV, which was announced tonight alongside two new Canon lenses: the EF 16-35mm f/2.8L III USM and EF 24-105mm f/4L IS II USM.

Further down in this post, you can see a Shutterbug video we shot of pro photographer and Shutterbug contributor Jordan Matter trying out the Canon 5D Mark IV in portrait, action, video and low light tests. We’ve also posted high-resolution sample images that Matter shot with the 5D IV to give you a sense of its image quality. However, since the camera we were trying out was a pre-production model, Canon required us to resize them at 90% of the original size.
