Canon Unveils 24.2MP EOS Rebel T6s and T6i DSLR Cameras with Wireless Connectivity

Canon just unveiled two new digital DSLRs in its Rebel lineup: the EOS Rebel T6s and the EOS Rebel T6i DSLR cameras. Both Rebel DSLRs feature a newly developed 24.2 megapixel Canon CMOS imaging sensor and built-in Wi-Fi and NFC to make shooting and sharing images easier.

The EOS Rebel T6s is designed for photo enthusiasts looking to move up from entry-level cameras to a DSLR with more serious features. The Rebel T6i is aimed at more casual photographers looking for a fast shooting DSLR that’s easy to use at a more affordable price.

Both new EOS Rebel DSLRs have an ISO range of 100-12800 (expandable to 25600) and feature Canon’s DIGIC 6 image processor. While the new Rebels have similar camera bodies, there are some noticeable differences on their exteriors. The more advanced T6s is the first Rebel with an LCD panel on the top plate and a quick control dial on back.

The Canon Rebel T6s also has a Horizontal Level and built-in HDR movie capabilities. The T6s is also the first Rebel DSLR to feature Servo AF in Live View, allowing continuous tracking of moving subjects during burst mode shooting sequences.

Both the Rebel T6s and T6i cameras feature Canon’s new Hybrid CMOS AF III image sensor-embedded autofocus system, which is designed to be fast and accurate when capturing Full HD video or high-resolution photos in Live View. There’s also a high-speed continuous shooting at up to five frames per second (fps). The cameras feature a 19-point all cross-type AF system.

The Canon T6s and T6i feature built-in wireless capabilities, which is a first for Canon’s Rebel DSLRs. These WiFi features allow photographers to wirelessly transfer images and videos to compatible smartphones and tablets through Canon’s recently updated and free Camera Connect app. Images and videos can also be shared wirelessly to a wide range of popular social networking sites through Canon iMAGE GATEWAY.

The camera’s built-in NFC (Near Field Communication) allows for quick and relatively simple pairing to a compatible Android device, or devices that support NFC like the new Canon Connect Station CS100 photo and video storage and sharing device. The built-in Wi-Fi functionality also allows users to wirelessly print their images to any compatible printer, like the PIXMA MG7520 or PIXMA iP8720

Both new EOS Rebel cameras have a 3-inch vari-angle touch screen Clear View LCD monitor on back with approximately 1,040,000 dots. The rotating displays are designed to help capture high or low framed shots, as well as provide clearer viewing even when outdoors in the sunlight.

The new cameras also feature the latest version of Canon’s EOS scene analysis system, which helps photographers capture better images in a wider range of situations by detecting near-infrared light and flickering light sources. Also new to Canon’s EOS line: both the two new Rebels feature color tone detection, which helps keep people in photographs in better focus and better exposure by adjusting both autofocus and exposure metering.

The Rebel T6s and Rebel T6i cameras feature EOS Movie mode, which captures Full HD 1080p resolution video up to 30 fps in MP4 format. Manual exposure control, digital zoom and an external stereo microphone jack are available on the more advanced Rebel T6s.

Creative Filters such as Fisheye Effect, Toy Camera Effect and Monochrome mode help give you different styles in your photos while Fisheye Effect gives images a panoramic look and feel. Toy Camera Effect adds a grainy look to soften photos, illustrating a vintage appearance and with Monochrome mode, photos can either have black-and-white, blue or sepia tones, to display a more classic appearance.

The Canon EOS Rebel T6s and T6i DSLRs will go on sale at the end of April 2015. The T6s will sell for $849, body only, and $1,199 bundled with an EF-S 18-135 STM lens. The Rebel T6i has an estimated retail price of $749, body only; $899 bundled with an EF-S 18-55 STM lens; and $1,099.00 bundled with an EF-S 18-135 STM lens.
