I was in Eugene, Oregon, helping my daughter buy a car needed for commuting to her first job after graduating college. There were no customers on the car lot that Saturday morning because it happened to the first day of football season, and everyone was at the stadium across the river watching the Oregon Ducks' home opener.
I always keep a camera in my trunk. As I was waiting for the car dealing to prepare all the paperwork required to purchase a car, I told my daughter that I was going to step outside for a quick walk.
Next to the dealership, I noticed the clouds building up beyond a suspension bridge for pedestrians and bicyclists. I made five photographs of the bridge -- four in black and white -- focusing on the pattern of the suspension cables against the dramatic backdrop of the clouds. It probably was the most memorable car-buying experience of my life.
