It’s been my experience that there are a handful of special objects in the world that have developed cachet or “mojo” and are emotionally appealing to people in various fields. Some of these unique items engage our interest because they’re otherwise unassuming objects which have become associated with unusual people or events. I think of the track shoes Roger Bannister wore on May 6, 1954 when he ran the world’s first sub-4 minute mile. I think of “Brownie” and “Blackie,” two of Eric Clapton’s Fender Stratocasters. The console Sam Phillips used in Sun Studios to record Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis, Carl Perkins, and Roy Orbison must drip with “mojo,” as does Pete Seeger’s banjo, no doubt.

There was a time when I’d avoid a zoom lens as much as I’d avoid a swarm of midges. But in the digital age, the zoom lens has taken on new purpose, at least for me. Midges, however, are still a pest that is best avoided—especially when you’re changing lenses. Fujfilm has unveiled the new Fujfilm X-T10, a premium interchangeable lens camera that joins the X-Series digital camera line-up. The sleek Fujfilm X-T10 is designed to deliver pro image quality, usability and portability with its new autofocus system, large electronic Real Time Viewfinder, and continuous shooting speed of up to 8.0fps. The X-T10 also has a short lag time of just 0.005 seconds.

Panasonic took the wraps off the new Lumix DMC-G7 mirrorless camera this morning. The Panasonic Lumix G7 features a 16-megapixel Micro Four Thirds image sensor and can shoot 4K video. The G7 is also the latest Panasonic camera with 4K Photo, a feature that allows you to extract 4K-sized (approximately 8MP) still images from the 4K video.

The Canon Rebel T6s and T6i are based on the same camera design: Both use an APS-C sized sensor (Canon's “APS-C” with 22.9 x 14.9 mm) with a resolution of 24MP. They also use the same image processor, the DIGIC 6. However, there are some design differences. While the TS6i looks like a little modified version of its forerunner T5i, the design of the T6s is more reminiscent of the mid-range SLR system EOS 70D.
