xD card readers - downloading help needed

I use 1GB xD cards in my camera for work. I have yet to find a portable card reader for the xD format that can actually read/download my 1GB cards. I am having to hook my camera via USB cable in order to get a good download. Most readers work only with 128MB or 512MB cards. I'd liked something small that I can hold to a USB port on my Dell laptop or through the PCI card slot. Also due to the number of pictures I take many times in a very short span of time) using 128MB cards to solve the problem is out of the question. In fact I'd be using 2GB xD cards if they made them. I am also hoping to be able to download a full 1GB card in say 5 minutes. Now it takes about 12 minutes. I have USB 2.0 ports and 512MB on board memory on the laptop and PCI card slot.

I use a SanDisk ImageMate for both CF and SD cards and am very pleased with it. It reads my 1gig SD card without any problem and both xD and SD use the same slot on that unit. It also reads my 4gig Hitachi MicroDrive without a hitch. I've been using the SanDisk stuff for years and have been very pleased with it. It's inexpensive and it works great; what more could you ask?

I use the Sandisc 8-1, for Xd, Cf and sm.
Olympus also makes there own card reader; if that does not work with the xd, nothing will.

Thanks for the replies I have had issues with the scan disk 8-in-1 model it will only read 512MB xD cards and not my 1GB. Thanks for the advice.

I had the same problem.
The answer is the Olympus MAUSB-100 XD card reader.
It reads my FULL 1GB card in under 5 minutes. You can lock the card into it for safety and its only the size of a flash memory stick. Delighted with mine. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the tip! I went to the Olympus site for more info. It looks like a very good solution for Dave, but it runs xD cards exclusively.

I have a 1gbd xd card and my Sandisk ImageMate 8 in 1 reads it fine I have used it several times with no problem

I ended up with the Olympus MAUSB-100. It reads my 1GB xD cards and with a full card it takes about 7 minutes to download to my Dell laptop.
