Wireless SB-800 with D70s

I got a new SB-800 and I'm trying to use it wireless with my D70s. I'm having some problems setting the flash to the correct setting so it will fire when I take a picture. On the D70s I have Commander mode at TTL. The SB-800 is REMOTE - CH 3 Group B Mzoom.
Questions?
1. Do I need to use the flash on the camera also? I don't want to use it, but thats the only way I got the SB-800 to flash
2. If the SB-800 is not mounted to the camera, would it still read the camera settings? If so, what would be the settings??

First of all, I think that the D70 only supports one channel so the flash needs to be set on channel one. Second, the camera flash has to go off but can be blocked with the SG-2 or SG3IR. Here's a page I've been working on using the SB-800s with my D200.
