My understanding is Tocad bought Contax. I am unclear if they will still carry the Contax line. I heard ToCad bought them out to carry out the contract then the company would then be bought by someone else. It appears ToCad will honor warrentees, but no new cameras are being build. I am a little confused. Someone help explain this to me. Monte Johnson.
Monte, you can see Tocad's news release on this at
http://www.tocad.com/news.html
It appears that Kyocera intends to continue producing Contax cameras (words etched in stone, right?). The same news release announces Tocad's acquisition of Hakuba, another Japanese company that manufactures photo accessories. Maybe there's been some confusion between the two announcements......
At the least. It appears when you go to places like BH the Contax line of lens are very limited. There seemed to be no mamual Contax cameras like the Aria. The G2 was still available, but the lesn were limited. Seems to me things are just in limbo right now. Monte Johnson.
That's a pretty old news release. My understanding is that as of April, 2005, Kyocera is out of the camera business, period, and the Contax-Zeiss licensing agreement is dead. No more Contax, in other words, at this point in time. ToCAd appears to have merely picked up the repair liability period for servicing Contax cameras still within the 10-year window period.
That's our understanding as well. That release is from the PMA show early this year.
George,
I have read the same article, I guess I did understand it right. Thanks Monte Johnson.
