Well I am ready to make the leap from my old HP P1000 printer. I am really confused about which one to get, going from the Epson r800 up to the R2400. I am trying to justify the huge price difference, and am wondering if anyone can give me some advice. I do like Balck and white and have a traditional darkroom that I want to try to match similar output. Does the R1800 do black and white well or do I have to step up to the R2400. I will not be doing a lot of prints. Not selling them. Just want good high quality for my own satisfaction. Also anyone have experience with Epson store and their refurbished units. I can save some money there and perhaps get a little more printer.
The r800 is the little brother to the R1800. Same printing system but it just can't print as large. The R800/1800 is a great color printing system and a good black and white system. The R2400 has the added benefit of being a great black and white printer due to the larger number of shades of black and gray. If you have been a darkroom fanatic for black and white, you will probably appreciate the extra black and white quality of the R2400.
Epson refurb's can be a good deal. Often the items are just returns that had nothing wrong with them but people just didn't want them or couldn't figure out how to use them. I think it is one of those deals where it will work well or show problems fairly quickly. The key is get it and then test it very carefully and thoroughly during the warranty period. If it works well for a month, it will probably be just as reliable as a printer you would buy "new."
My $.02,
Doug

Thanks Doug, well I took the chance and bought the R2400 refurbished from the Epson store. It comes with a one year warranty, and it said it is fully tested and checked out. Price was great going this way plus free shipping and a 10% instant rebate. Lets hope all works out.
Steve
I think you'll be happy with the 2400. I have 3 Epson 2200s, a 220 just for printing CD labels, a 4000pro and a 9600 and I'm very happy with all of them.
